Congratulations to Dr. MacKay for telling the public what most Ophthalmogists only tell to their own family members. Dr. MacKay tells her patients that LASIK is “a terrible idea and don’t go near it.”

The 140 complaint figure is incredibly misleading. Patients suffering from LASIK complications don’t think about searching through FDA web bureacracy to find out if a report exists where they can file a complaint. That’s why the count is so low. Also, physicians are supposed to report LASIK complications but they ignore this requirement. If you trust the 140 figure then you are basing your trust on blind faith.

The last statement he made is enough alone not to do this procedure. Too many unknowns.

Give up this laser fantasy people and put on your glasses. There won’t be any safe vision correction system available until about 1000 years from now.

Worst decision of my life too! I have severe dry eye–Restasis doesn’t help. Punctal occlusion didn’t help. Drops every hour don’t help. Night vision terrible. Painful eyes for the past 3 years since having Lasik.

The options if I want to be a pilot is to stay with my glasses or get contacts OR get lazer eye surgery. I heard the healing takes longer but its better and they don’t cut open your eyes.

a lot of people are too stupid to know they are experiencing complications with their vision. thousands of people have big problems with LASIK. also the procedures used now, have not been in place long enough to know the long term problems. it is proven that the LASIK flap never heals, and your corneal strength remains at about 2% of what it is normally. operating on healthy tissue is always a very bad idea.

Terrible reporting. Who is Dr. MacKay and why is she qualified to make statement like that? 140 complaints out of more than 5 million done. Statistics would indicate most are pretty pleased. Of course when you are the one with the complication it’s 100% to you.

Why is the FDA involved. Lasik is neither a food nor is it a drug.

LASIK was the worst decision of my life, it felt like a thousand needles sticking my eyes. They market it like it’s painless but it’s not. The suction ring felt like it pulled my eyes out of their socket. LASIK promotes permanent conditions with no cure:

    -Dry Eye Syndrome
    -Double Vision
    -Night Halos/Starbursts
    -Depression
    -Loss of Visual Acuity
    -Accelerated Aging of the Eye
    -Lack of Natural Tear Production
-Each Year Post LASIK Vision Gets Progressively Worse
    -Cell Tissue Mutation

LUNOMA: You are confusing the meaning of “Lying Ongoing” with “Improving…” If you do your homework, and I challenge you to do it, you will discover that every LASIK procedure causes cell mutation and destroyed corneal nerves…this will always be harmful and this will NEVER BE SAFE, unless it is a procedure that HELPS the eye instead of KILLING, DESTROYING the eye!! Please note the difference…Here let me help you…

An elective procedure, doctors will not come clean about the possible side effects of LASIK. Twelve years post-LASIK and it remains the worst decision of my entire life. Are you willing to take that chance?

Do your homework. Every laser causes cell mutation, the industry knows this. Here is what happens over time from the UV laser light damage: hazing, dry eye, cell loss, corneal nerve damages, etc…Yes, it’s safer than LASIK, but as good as contacts. Good luck!!

Yeah I’m not even getting LASIK!!! I’m getting LASEK they do not even create a flap with LASEK! Obviously you know nothing about LASEK and also I’m not paying $5k because I live in Ireland and we use euro and it costs €3k. Just because you had complications doesn’t mean that everyone else will.

You’re the idiot that is paying a Lying LASIK Quack $5k to have a permanent FLAP that ruins your eyes. Just wait until the 5,7, 9th year when you can’t even tolerate the pain nor wear contacts..Why don’t you ask yourself if the 95% success rate was given by the LASIK liars or the patients?? LASIK should be history after this year…

Lets do the math folks. An estimated 12,000,000 Americans have had LASIK. The FDA is reporting a 95.4% success rate (however the LASIK industry defines success). That represents a 5% failure rate, or about 600,000 Americans and their families RUINED from LASIK. Now are the numbers making sense? The FDA is way off at only having 142 complaints over 11 years. Are you starting to understand the epidemic? Would you go up in an airplane if it crashed 35% of the time? LASIK odds are about that
