Dr. Wachler, the flap never truly heals because, as u well know, there is not sufficient blood supply to the cornea to carry nutrients required for complete healing. The flap may “seals” but it certainly does not heal; it remains forever. The flap, in fact, weakens the cornea substantially and permanently. An excellent refractive result post-LASIK does not equate with healthier eyes. Eye health is indisputably compromised by LASIK in ALL cases and patients need to be made aware of this.

What color is the light that the person has to stare at? Could you do a video on the GDX VCC or the orbscan?

The flap does heal. Lifting it requires special instruments because it healed. Alternatives to LASIK are No-Cut LASEK or Visian ICL.

It’s important that patients are properly tested to determine if LASIK is suitable. I wrote the “Lasik Consumer Report” (available online) to help the public understand what is involved with proper pre-LASIK testing.

LASIK side effects can often be treated, including ectasia. Ectasia treatments are on our website: Intacs, C3-R and CK.
