Good Skin Care

Vitamin E is thought to be particularly beneficial in skin care among all the antioxidant nutrients. Take any good skin care preparation and you will find vitamin E invariably present in its formation. In fact, it is the moisturizing properties of Vitamin E, which are best known. Applied directly to the skin in the form of creams, lotions and oils, it reduces water loss and maintains skin's elasticity. It penetrates easily to the deeper skin layers, protecting nerve tissues, collagen, glands and blood vessels. Used in preparation in concentration of up to 20 per cent, it is non-irritating and non-allergic, even to the most sensitive skins.

Vitamin E is also found to be effective in healing the skin as well as keeping it looking good. Its anti-scarring properties have been used to treat burns, and dermatologists apply it to a variety of skin disorders. However, the most important role of Vitamin E is as the protector of cell membranes. While we are alive, new cells are created and replace the cell, which die.

The younger we are, the more cells are created. As we reach our twenties, the number of cells that die balances the number of new cells created. After that, as more cells die than are created, the ageing process sets in. Each cell is surrounded by membrane also regulates the passage of materials in and out of the cells and, in this way, is able to maintain a healthy environment within itself. If the membrane is damaged, this delicate balance is disrupted and the cell may become diseased and may even die. As vitamin E helps to retain the integrity of this cell membrane, it is highly regarded as a skin protector.

Oil for the skin

The older a skin becomes, the more oil it needs. The main function of oil is to trap in moisture and to prevent the skin from dehydrating. So it acts as a protector, and is essential for many aspects of skin health. There are several ways moisture can escape. The internal system may under function and fail to provide water to the skin or, as we age, the skin surface takes longer to replenish itself. The dry atmosphere created by central heating or very cold wind can all contribute to water loss. Coating our skins with oil can keep the moisture in and environmental hazards out.

For those, whose oil-producing glands work overtime to produce oily skin, an external coating of oil actually helps, as it fools the glands into thinking that the skin has enough oil, thus regulating further production.

Application of oil to the skin also be a way of feeding it with nutrients. Cold-pressed (heat extraction destroys vitamin E) wheat germ oil, for example, has a high vitamin E content, as has the oil extracted from apricot kernels. Sesame and carrot oils contain pro-vitamin A. Evening primrose oil contains high levels of the fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which helps to strengthen the structure of cell membranes.

Skin takes a lot of punishment but despite that, serves us well. A sound nutrition program can go a long way in keeping disease at bay. However, the body can malfunction with resulting effects on the skin. Nutritional measures can help here, too.

It is true that for best skin conditions, diet alone is not enough. Use organic skin care products to feed your skin. Organic skin care products not only nourish your skin but also help in eliminating the harmful toxins from the body.
